Platform disputes
"We’ve noticed other apps copying our game assets and even reusing our promotional material. Is there anything we can do about it?”
This is one of the most common questions we hear from game developers publishing on App Store, Google Play, Steam, Meta Store, or really any other platform. And while the answer is usually "yes", the path is not always straightforward.
Each platform has its own rules and procedures for handling infringement claims, and those rules can vary depending on the platform’s jurisdiction, the applicable law, and the specific legal basis for your claim.
In some cases, the most effective step is to file a takedown request directly with the platform. In others, reaching out to the developer may resolve the issue faster (and with less efforts). Navigating this patchwork of policies, legal frameworks, and practical strategies can quickly become overwhelming.
That’s why our IT disputes team has prepared a concise overview of how different platforms handle disputes, drawing on real-world cases.
