Changes are expected in Georgia's migration legislation
As it is known, package changes to migration legislation are expected in Georgia in the near future. As part of the implementation of these changes, on 08.08.2023 the Government of Georgia adopted Decree No. 291 (effective 01.09.2023), which defines the procedure for local employers to register labour immigrants working in Georgia in the unified database of the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Protection.
Thus, in case of employment of an immigrant, the employer is obliged to register the immigrant's data in the relevant database within 30 calendar days after the conclusion of the employment contract. The employer must also register the immigrant's data if the employment contract with the immigrant is terminated or extended.
- A special resource has been created: labourmigration.moh.gov.ge. (at the time of publication of this material it is not yet operational), where employers will have to register themselves and register the employed immigrant.
All data is uploaded electronically, including the employment contract itself.
The act additionally provides a list of mandatory information to be provided by the local employer when registering in the unified database of the Ministry of Labour of immigrants. If the employer fails to comply with these obligations, the Ministry has the right to apply to the Labour Inspectorate.
We are following and will keep you informed about other changes in Georgia's migration legislation.
